In 1985, Dave and Margo Connell took a leap of faith, and with just a second-hand digger and a big dream, they started a civil construction business from their Hamilton home.
Four decades later, Connell Contractors has become one of New Zealand’s most trusted names in complex civil and renewable energy infrastructure.
We’ve grown from a two-person operation into a nationwide team known for solving hard problems, delivering critical infrastructure, and doing the job right.
Now, in 2025, we’re proud to celebrate 40 years of helping to shape Aotearoa.
Connell Contractors is founded. Dave heads to site, Margo runs the books from home.
Early council contracts opened the door to growth and a reputation for honest, hardworking delivery.
The team grows. So do the projects. Connell starts taking on more complex underground infrastructure work.
Expansion across the country, large-scale civil projects and a move to the energy sector.
80+ staff. 30+ projects per year. Now a large company still built on family values.
